THE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE ART PROJECT

The University at Buffalo, the leading academic partner in the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences, is embarking on process to build a collection of artwork that supports their mission, celebrates innovation and technology within the visual arts, and further promotes the image of the Buffalo Niagara region as a center for science and the arts.

A committee is being assembled by the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County, UB, and representatives from the Center of Excellence who, over time, will call for and select works of art from artists who have strong ties to the Buffalo Niagara region.

Thoughtful consideration will be given to the placement, acquisition, and commissioning of new works of art and as well as the promotion of the artists and the overall collection. An annual rotation of artworks in individual offices along with an annual charitable event in support of the local visual arts is being considered.

In the interim, a small body of work has been installed for the next several months to enhance and beautify the new building and promote the value held by the Center of Excellence for supporting the arts. The artists currently featured at the Center of Excellence include:

  • Rita Argen-Auerbach
  • William Cooper
  • Valeria Cray-Dihaan
  • Steve Miller
  • Briget Robinson
  • Michelle Mazur
Special thanks to each of the artists and to the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County for helping to launch the Center of Excellence Art Project.
