Stelios T. Andreadis, Ph.D.

Stelios

Dr. Andreadis earned both his Masters of Science degree in Applied Mathematics and his Ph.D. in Biomedical/Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1996. He followed this with research as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Shriners Burns Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard Medical School.

He has been an Associate Professor in the State University of New York, Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo) Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering since 1998, and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the University’s Department of Biological Science since 2000.

Dr. Andreadis’ current research interests include retroviral gene transfer to epidermal stem cells for tissue engineering, which uses principles of engineering and cell-molecular biology device strategies to increase the efficiency of gene transfer to epidermal stem cells and understand retrovirus-cell interactions that improve gene transfer to the stem cell compartment. He is also working on a project in regulated insulin delivery from tissue engineered skin, in which it is hoped that genetically modified skin equivalents for regulated insulin delivery for treatment of type-1 diabetes will be developed.

He has co-authored over 30 articles and chapters, and has received numerous awards and commendations, including the NSF CAREER Award in 2000, and, from SUNY Buffalo, the Riefler Award in 1999, the Individual Development Award in May, 2000, and the Exceptional Scholar Young Investigator Award in 2003.
